Why it exists

Built out of pure frustration

All I wanted to do was convert one file. What the "free" converter sites wanted in return was a different story. If any of the following sounds familiar, Transpose was built for you:

  • "Free" until the second file, then it's a subscription — pay-per-convert dressed up as a trial.
  • Ads covering half the page, with three fake "Download Now" buttons and one real one — good luck.
  • Prove you're not a robot. Again. And again. To convert a photo of your own dog.
  • Downloads that arrive bundled with a "helpful" browser toolbar or worse.
  • Your files uploaded to who-knows-where, kept for who-knows-how-long, used for who-knows-what.

So I built my own. Transpose runs on my own hardware, was built from scratch, and does exactly one thing: converts your files. No monetisation tricks, because it isn't trying to monetise you.

What it does

One tool, most of the conversions you'll ever need

Documents

Word to PDF and PDF back to Word, plus PDF merging and splitting. The everyday office jobs that somehow always end up behind a paywall elsewhere.

Video

Convert between MP4, MKV and AVI, or pull the audio straight out of a video as an MP3. Handles large files — up to 500MB per upload.

Audio

MP3, WAV, OGG and FLAC, converted in any direction with the original quality preserved wherever possible.

Images

PNG, JPG, WebP and HEIC — including the iPhone photos nothing on your PC wants to open. Convert up to 100 images in one batch and get a single zip back.

Lyrics & Song ID

Look up lyrics for any track, or upload a clip of audio and let Transpose identify what song it is. A bonus feature, because why not.

Private by Design

Files are processed on my own server — not farmed out to a third party — and automatically deleted within 30 minutes. Nothing is kept, analysed, or sold.

The public version of Transpose is free to use. But if your company handles files it would rather not upload to random converter websites — contracts, client photos, internal documents — I can build and deploy a private version of Transpose for you.

That means your own branded converter, running on your own domain (or entirely inside your network), with the formats and limits tailored to what your team actually does. Your staff get a converter they can trust, and your files never leave your control.
